4 Simple Ways to Understand Yourself & Strive for Something Bigger.
Have you ever been so lost in life that every single day just seems like the last?
You wake up, go to work, come home, go to sleep, repeat.
Day in and day out.
You look around on social media seeing how much fun other people are having and you start asking yourself "what happened"?
How is it that my life is so bland and boring, while everyone else is out there making money and having fun?
You soon start to look in the mirror and you ask yourself is this it?
Eventually, you don’t even recognize yourself anymore.
You don’t know what you like or dislike, what your hobbies are, or even what motivates you to get out of bed in the morning.
The scary part is that you don’t even know what to do about it. Or at least where to start to make a change.
In this blog post, I will show you 4 simple exercises to help you better understand yourself so that you can get out of this slump and feel more fulfilled.
Here we go!
1. Identify Your Values
This process may take a while so I suggest you set aside some time, pull out a pen and a piece of paper and really take your time identifying your values.
What is it that YOU actually believe in?
Are you kind? Do you love and care about the well-being of others?
What about the animals? Does it hurt you to see that there are so many endangered animals?
What about the ocean? Do you feel a certain type of way when you see how dirty the ocean is?
Do you have a religion or believe in a higher power?
These are just a few examples of the type of questions you can ask yourself to find out what you believe in and what motivates you.
2. Journal
Some same its good to write down your thoughts.
That if you’re having a bad day, it can be soothing to just release everything out on paper.
Now, this may work for some, but I found it to be way too negative and eventually didn’t really help me.
If you have too much built up that you need to get out, then I suggest talking to someone about it.
Whether its a friend, lover or even a therapist.
(Talkspace is a great place to start if you can afford it).
The type of journaling I found to be extremely beneficial is the method I mentioned in a previous blog post (you can find that blog post here link)
Every morning, write down 3 things that you are grateful for.
It can be anything.
From the roof over your head to the sheets on your bed.
Next, think of one positive experience you had the previous day and write down not just the experience, but how you felt during that particular moment.
This helps your brain think and search for more positivity.
3. Positive Affirmations
If we leave it up to our brain, we will think nothing but negative thoughts and constantly put ourselves down until the point where we don’t even wanna strive for anything.
Self-care and loving yourself can be difficult to do but at the same time, it's essential to finding your happiness.
Whether you have a goal you’re striving for, or you just want to pick yourself up and tell yourself you're beautiful.
Remind yourself every single day with positive affirmations.
4. Never Stop Learning
Fall in love with the process of bettering yourself every single day!
Read more books. Don't just read leisure books to relax. If there is a certain area you would like to improve in trust me there is a book for it.
Listen to podcasts, watch webinars, and attend seminars on things that you are interested in.
Bettering yourself just makes you feel good. It makes you feel like there is more to life than just the 9-5.
It’s okay the pain is only temporary.
As the great Mike Tyson once said; "As long as you have life you have a chance". You can make a change and go after whatever it is that you want!
Never stop learning, never stop growing.
As always. with love,
Steven
